Have you ever dreamed of being a Starlet? Maybe you loved the flirty appeal of Marilyn Monroe or the sultry allure of Rita Hayworth. Perhaps you love Dita Von Teese and her retro style. We do too!
That’s why Olga Daubs Boudoir is excited to introduce a second kind of women’s portraiture that we call Starlet Sessions. Unlike the standard boudoir session that Olga photographs, these sessions are shot by Steve. They take inspiration from old Hollywood masters like George Hurrell and the glamour of starlets of the 30s to the 60s as well as the pin-up image of the 40s and 50s.
Steve has studied the techniques of these studio photographers and created techniques to mirror the look and drama of the best that Hollywood produced in Hollywood’s golden age and applies the lighting, styling, and posing that make these images shine.
Like our boudoir sessions, each shoot includes professional hair and makeup with an artist trained in the specific trends from these eras. Like our boudoir sessions, they’re a fun way to spend an afternoon embracing the most glamorous version of yourself. You’ll come in for an hour or so of time for hair and makeup, and then two hours of photography. We work with you to develop wardrobe and styling that fits your vision of the session.
Your looks can be anything from ball gowns to flapper dresses to vintage lingerie. We do images that draw from the hard lighting and dramatic shadows of vintage Hollywood press photos, clean and simple pinup images inspired by Vargas, and everything in-between. If it’s retro, it works! We can help you create images that are as beautiful as they are fun to make.
We meet to discuss the kinds of glamorous images you want to create, the kinds of products you want to showcase your images through, and set a date for the session.
Purchase Your Wardrobe
While we have a variety of vintage-inspired props in the studio, most clients will also shop for one or two standout outfits for their session. We can recommend online and local shops that offer everything from vintage dresses to modern pinup styles to vintage-inspired corsets and lingerie.
Your session itself will begin a talented hair and makeup artist to prepare you for the camera. Almost like a spa day, we’ll get relaxed, maybe have a glass of wine, and make sure you look your absolute best. We’ll talk and laugh in a comfortable environment, and then have a blast making sure you look amazing in your images. The entire session typically lasts about three hours, with an hour of preparation and two hours in front of the camera.
Reveal and Ordering Session
A few weeks after your session, we’ll meet up again at the studio and I’ll show you your finished images, generally around 30 total. You will pick your favorites and decide how you want to display them, whether it be individual prints, an album, wall art or something else.
Once you’ve placed your order, I’ll work with my album and printing partners to create your final images. When they arrive, I’ll contact you to set up a time to hand deliver them. Depending on what you order, it will take from one to six weeks for your images to be finished.
